How to get to Nungwi beach
If you are already in Nungwi a short taxi ride or even a walk
Getting to Nungwi from Stone town trip to Nungwi takes around 1.5 hours , depending on the delays of road obstacles and police checkpoints, and number of stops the driver makes en route. There are several options available:
- Public transportation known as dala dala bus number #116 from Darajani/Creek Road in Stone Town: 2.000 TZS (1 USD) per person is the regular price, but some dala dala operators may insist you pay a “tourist rate” of 3000-5000 TZS
- Hire a car and self-drive: 30 – 50 USD / da
- Hotel-arranged transport in private car or 4WD: 45 USD each way
- Book a shuttle bus to collect you from your current accommodation and drop you directly at your next accommodation – this costs $10 per person and the shuttle can be booked online (which is a major advantage). The only company currently operating this service is The Zanzibus – book tickets via their website.
Best time to visit Nungwi beach
January until March then June – December, this time of the year is more preferable because the weather is warm and no rainfall. Temperature of Nungwi beach lowest is 27°C and highest 31°C
BEWARE
- You will be bothered by locals trying to sell you boat trips other services.
- Although Nungwi is a quite friendly and safe place to be, don’t wear flashy or carry valuable things
There is an ATM located on Nungwi Road, however it is the only one and not conveniently better bring enough
Many restaurants and hotels accept credit cards, but the occasional not working credit card reader (mostly due to a bad connection – this results in a “declined” message, but don’t worry it usually means the internet is not working).
